Tropical House in urgent need of repair
October 29th
The October storm brought moderate damage compared to the big storm years of ’87 and ’90, but the most serious issue has been with our Tropical House where we lost a roof panel and some other damage to the cladding from flying debris.
Sadly, a closer inspection of the cladding on the Tropical House has revealed the condition has deteriorated significantly worse than perviously thought, the polycarbonate cladding has almost completely failed. Over the years the polycarbonate has become brittle due to U.V. damage and wind debris has created holes across the structure. We URGENTLY need to raise money to replace all the cladding or the house will have to close.
We have negotiated a price per sheet of £70, so if each of our Friends sponsored a single panel, perhaps clubbing together with family and friends we could replace all of the sheets before the winter hits in earnest. This new material will extend the life of the Tropical House for another 25 years.
Please help! We will keep a record of all donor names and commemorate everybody on an attractive engraved panel inside the Tropical House.
Please send or bring a cheque to VBG made out to Ventnor Botanic Garden Friends’ Society for one or more panels.
For those who wish to Gift Aid their appeal donation please indicate so and we can post back the required form. Please also indicate if you prefer your donation to be anonymous.
